Originally built as part of a chain of hotels by the Mexican government down the central regions of Baja to encourage more tourism along the recently paved, Transpeninsular Highway nearly a half century back under the name of “La Pinta”.

In 2008 the name of the hotel chain was changed to “Desert Inn” and a few years back, the Rodriguez family of Los Pinos purchased the hotels here in San Quintín and Cataviña, renaming them Mision Santa Maria Hotels.

A lot of improvements were made to both hotels and today they offer some of the very nicest overnight accomodations available in this region and among the very best motels / hotels in San Quintin.
